Building the Next Generation Of
Every year, thousands of talented young people in Northern Kenya and across the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands are told the same thing: opportunity lives somewhere else. ASAL iLab exists to prove that wrong. We are a nonprofit innovation and digital skills center building Northern Kenya’s technology talent pipeline, training youth, women, refugees, and entrepreneurs in the skills powering the modern economy, while incubating the startups that will employ the next generation.

Career Pathways
Why This Matters Now
Northern Kenya sits at the center of two of the defining forces of this century: Africa’s youth boom and the global digital economy’s hunger for talent. By 2035, Africa will add more young workers to the global labor force than the rest of the world combined, yet the arid and semi-arid counties that make up over 80% of Kenya’s landmass remain among the least connected to that opportunity. ASAL iLab is where that gap closes.
Industry-aligned curriculum
Built from real job descriptions, not textbooks. Reviewed and updated every cohort so graduates step into work that already exists.
Radical inclusion
40% female enrollment target with active scholarship programs. Talent has no gender, no postcode, no background requirement.
Rooted in Northern Kenya
We are built from, and for, this community. Not a Nairobi export repackaged for the region this institution belongs here.
Portfolio-based graduation
Every graduate ships deployed projects to GitHub. Proof of skill is the only certificate that matters in the global economy.
